Mewstone Wines

Mewstone wines

Mewstone wines are made solely from fruit grown on our own vineyard in Flowerpot. These wines are intended to represent place and season. Every care is taken in through the growing season to bring the highest quality of fruit to harvest. The winemaking is aimed at harnessing the strengths of our site. We hope these wines will be enjoyed for many years to come.Due to limited numbers our Mewstone wines are only available through ourwine clubat the moment. Tastings are still available at the cellar door.

Our upcoming Mewstone and Combo packs will have a mix of these Mewstone wines included. We'll also have a limited release of Mewstone Syrah available to members in June 2022.

2020 Mewstone Pinot

Grapes grown at Mewstone vineyard were hand picked on the 20th and 24th of April at 12.0 baume. They were naturally fermented with 20 percent whole bunch. They received minimal pump overs before being pressed after 21 days. The wine was matured in french oak (40% new) for nine months.

2020 Mewstone Chardonnay

Picked on April 5th. Whole bunch pressed, racked to barrel and naturally fermented. Aged in oak, 40% new, while undergoing malolactic ferment for 13 months and bottled in late autumn.

2018 Mewstone Pinot

The two pinot blocks were picked individually on March 23rd and April 2nd. The top block was then naturally fermented with 40% whole bunch, the bottom block with 20% in our old milk vats. These were pressed after 20 days on skins to oak, 40% new, and matured while undergoing malolactic fermentation. They were racked and sulphured prior to bottling in late summer.

2018 Mewstone Riesling

Picked on April 8th, the fruit was destemmed, crushed and left to soak for 24 hours. Pressed to old oak and naturally fermented. As the cellar cooled in late autumn so too did the ferment. Fermentation extended out beyond six weeks before we called a halt as the sugars and acidity found their balance. Matured on lees through to late spring before filtering and bottling.
